Hayley Hudson drove in three runs and Kalynn Schrock tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout to lead No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma past Oklahoma Christian 8-0 Monday afternoon.
The Bronchos managed just two hits in the first four innings in taking a 3-0 lead before erupting for five hits and five runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the eight-run rule.
Hudson went 1-for-1 at the plate with a walk, sacrifice fly and two-run single to pace a seven-hit attack that also saw Sam Cool go 2-for-2 with two RBI and Kaylee Brunson finish 1-for-1 with three runs scored.
Schrock struck out five and walked three in her two-hitter, improving to 15-3 in the circle.
It was the 10th straight home win for UCO, which moved to 25-7 on the season in its first meeting with the Eagles since 2005. The Bronchos were scheduled to host Northeastern State for a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader Wednesday, but those games have been moved to April 10.
UCO scored its first run without benefit of a hit in the bottom of the first when Brunson drew a lead-off walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Ally Dziadula’s sacrifice fly.
The Bronchos bumped its lead to 3-0 in the third with just one hit, scoring one run on an error and the second on Hudson’s long fly ball.
UCO finally got its bats going when it broke the game open in the seventh, scoring five runs on five hits.
Brunson started the inning with another lead-off walk, Dziadula followed with a bunt single and Kacie Edwards was hit by pitch to load the bases. Hudson’s single down the left field line scored two runs, Sam Cool added a two-run double to right-center field moments later and Tori Collet ended the game with an RBI single up the middle.
UCO returns to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. league twinbill at Lincoln.
