Special to The Sun
Central Oklahoma’s Brittni Walker earned first-team recognition while Meagan Burke and Jordan Hutchison were second-team picks on the Daktronics All-Central Region Team that was announced Monday.
The Central Region is made up of teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Great American Conference, with players nominated and voted on by sports information directors of member schools.
First-team selections from each of the four all-region teams advance to the All-America ballot.
Walker, a senior from Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, was UCO’s leading scorer for the fourth consecutive year. She topped the Bronchos in goals (eight), assists (six) and points (22) while knocking in three game-winning goals.
Walker ended her career ranked in the top five in three all-time categories at UCO — goals (fourth, 35), points (fifth, 89) and assists (tie-fifth, 19).
A senior from Lakewood, Colo., Burke transferred to UCO from Wyoming for her final season and recorded 10 shutouts between the posts. She allowed just 13 goals and made 71 saves while playing 1,963 of the team’s 2,066 minutes.
Hutchison was the team’s top fullback all season, a lock-down defender who spearheaded a dominating defensive effort that saw the Bronchos allow only 14 goals while shutting out 11 teams.
All three UCO players also received first-team All-MIAA honors and led the way as the Bronchos went 16-3-3 in making it to the second round of the NCAA Division II national tournament this season.
