Special to The Sun
Central Oklahoma 149-pounder Jordan Basks has been named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The second-ranked Basks had two impressive wins last week, knocking off defending national champion and top-rated Raufeon Stots of Nebraska-Kearney 6-3 in UCO’s 22-16 home win and picking up a 13-3 major decision the next night as the Bronchos routed Ouachita Baptist 34-13 on the road.
Basks, a junior from Claremore, is now 15-3 on the season and riding an 11-match winning streak.
UCO wrestling hosts OCU Tuesday night
Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma City renew their wrestling rivalry Tuesday with a 7 p.m. dual at Hamilton Field House.
The Bronchos, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, are 6-1 on the season. The Stars, rated sixth in NAIA, are 6-6.
UCO owns a 9-2 lead in the series, though OCU won last year’s battle 19-18. The teams actually tied 18-18, but the Stars earned the win on criteria (most falls/technical falls).
The Bronchos have six individuals ranked in the top eight at their respective weight in their lineup, while the Stars have five.
Here’s the probable lineup for both teams, with UCO wrestler listed first:
