Special to The Sun
WICHITA, Kan. —
Central Oklahoma opened its 2013 season in fine fashion here Friday afternoon with a 6-3 victory over Newman.
The Bronchos won two of three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead and then got singles victories from senior leader Antonella Rossini, Alina Gorina, Ilga Racika-Racko and Laura Klingert in closing out the Jets.
“We had to overcome some nerves in the doubles since it was the first match of their collegiate career at UCO for several of our girls, but we had two great comebacks,” said head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey of wins by her Nos. 2 and 3 teams. “Overall I am very happy about how we played our first match of the season and we’re glad to come home with a win.”
UCO makes its home debut Monday, hosting Southeastern Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
