Lady Antlers top rival Guthrie

EDMOND — The Deer Creek girls used a balanced scoring attack and solid early defense to defeat rival Guthrie Friday night.

The Lady Antlers came out on the offensive, outscoring the Bluejays 12-7 in the first quarter behind five points from Ashley Gibson and a 3-pointer from Alexa Adair.

Deer Creek didn’t allow a field goal in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 9-4 to take a 21-11 advantage into the break.

DC kept up the pressure in the third, putting up two 3-pointers by Adair and Whitney Jones to outscore Guthrie 10-6 in the period to enter the final quarter up 31-17.

The Lady Antlers got a brief scare in the fourth quarter as Guthrie’s offense came alive, scoring 14 points, including 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. A 13-point output in the fourth, however, was enough for Deer Creek to hold on for the 44-31 victory.

Only three Guthrie players got on the board, as the two Murillo sisters combined to score 27 of the Lady ’Jays 31 points.

Gibson led the Lady Antlers with 10 points, followed by nine apiece from Adair and Jones. Dakota Vann had seven points, Bayli Blanchard five, and Jalyn Jackson and Shae Scheffler each had two.
