EDMOND — No. 2-ranked Edmond North breezed past Putnam City West on Senior Night at the Siberian Gym, getting big performances from Emily Davis and Elizabeth Donohoe on Friday in a 60-36 win.
If it was not for a sloppily played first half, the 24-point rout could have been much bigger. North had 13 turnovers in the first half. They forced 18, but there were a lot of easy baskets lost on passes in transition.
“I liked how we played defensively, I just thought we turned it over too much. We were much better in the second half, I think the girls were just wanting to have a good performance on Senior Night,” North head coach Kevin Korstjens said.
Donohoe struggled offensively, early on, but found her stroke early in the third quarter and didn’t even touch the floor in the fourth on her way to a 13 point, 14 rebound game. Davis took advantage of the Lady Patriots defense in the second half, scoring 13 of her game-high 19 points. She also had nine boards.
While Senior Night was fun, it was clear the Lady Huskies (19-3) wanted to get back on track in the second half before they head into postseason play.
North led 26-19 at the break and the 19 points they scored in the third quarter would be more than P.C. West would score in the entire second half.
“It’s nice to win on senior night. We accomplished a lot during the regular season, going 19-3 is pretty good. But now we have to get back to work, correct our turnover problem and get ready for our second season,” Korstjens said.
TaNita Dewberry finished with eight points and seven rebounds, Ashley Webb had six points and eight rebounds, while Anna Kimsey and Jennifer Lee, each finished with six points and three rebounds.
The Lady Huskies begin postseason play at home on Thursday night when they host Westmoore. Choctaw will take on Del City in the other game.
Choctaw has defeated No. 4 Santa Fe twice, while Del City knocked off Putnam City earlier in the year.
“Every day our region looks stronger and stronger. Choctaw has won four of their last five games,” Korstjens said.
