EDMOND — Bayli Blanchard, Dakota Vann and Whitney Jones ganged up on Putnam West from the outset as host Deer Creek ravaged the Lady Patriots 52-27 in the opening round of the Bruce Gray Invitational at Deer Creek High School Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Antlers, improving to 12-4, bombarded Putnam West 18-4 in the first quarter led by Blanchard’s 10 points. She finished the half with a dozen and led all scorers in the contest with 18.

In the initial half, Vann was a perfect 2-for-2 on 3-pointers for nine points and Jones wound up with eight while teammate Glenn Chesley chipped in a deuce. With 43 seconds to play before intermission, Jones dropped in a free throw and was the outlet on a fast break, dribbled upcourt and drove up the center of the lane for a bucket with two seconds to play for a 31-8 lead at the break.

With 32 ticks remaining in the third, it was Jones again on a break, who went to the right side of the basket for a driving layup to give Deer Creek a 42-15 cushion to close out the third quarter. Jones ended the game with 14 points followed by Vann (12, 3-for-5 3s), Emily Gillis (2), Bianca Harding (2) and MK Brinska (2).

The Lady Antlers will face the winner of Enid/Lawton MacArthur Friday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals.
