Memorial swims to silver at conference meet

OKLA. CITY — Both the Memorial girls and boys swimming teams finished second in the Mid-State Conference swim meet Thursday at Oklahoma City Community College. Norman North came away with both team titles.

In the girls meet, freshman Kelsey Kersgieter won the 200 Individual Medley, and then teamed with Jordan Boehrer, Natalie Voral and Carmen Leibrock to win the 200 Medley Relay for the fifth-rated Lady Bulldogs.

For the Memorial boys, Jonathan Ye was a double-event winner as he took the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle events. Francisco Ochoa was the other event winner for No. 5 Memorial as he won the 500 Freestyle.

Edmond Memorial will swim next Jan. 30 as the two squads will compete with Edmond North and Edmond Santa Fe in the Edmond City Championships. The meet will start at 5:30 p.m. at the new Edmond Recreation and Aquatic Center located at Mitch Park. Admission is free.



North cruises to Metro Conference titles

The Huskies dominated the rest of the field in the final Metro Conference swim meet Jan. 21 at Oklahoma City Community College. The Lady Huskies totaled 599 points, with Mustang a distance second with 362. Santa Fe placed third with 313 points.

Ally Robertson and Olivia Seefeldt were both double-event winners, as Robertson won the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Butterfly — setting new conference records in each — while Seefeldt took the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle events.

Alexa Acuna won the 100 Backstroke for the top-ranked Lady Huskies, with Sarah Helton winning the 100 Breastroke and Sydney Wright taking the 200 Freestyle.

 North also was the victor the 200 Medley Relay with the team of Acuna, Helton, Ryanne Vance and Robertson. The 200 Free Relay with Robertson, Seefeldt, Helton, and Vance also championed.

Santa Fe got a win in the final event, the 400 Free Relay with the team of Riley Powelson, Christen Bianchi, Jessica Landwehr and Alexis Ly.

In boys action, North was equally impressive, scoring 617 points, with Putnam North second at 372. Santa Fe came in sixth with 132 points.

Garrett Duncan, Joe Short and Alan Tran each won two individual events for the Huskies with Duncan winning the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breastroke, Short taking the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Butterfly, and Tran winning the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle for the Huskies.

Teammate Michael Britton won the 50 Freestyle and then teamed with Short, Duncan and Zack Padgett in winning the 200 Medley Relay. Short, Duncan and Britton joined Tran in winning the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Free Relay also took gold with the team of Short, Tran, Kyle Ashmun and Cole Duncan. 

For Santa Fe, senior Eric Williams was the top finisher as he took third in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle events.
