EDMOND — The Edmond Schools Aquatic Center was jam-packed Friday. The new state-of-the-art facility hosted the state swim meet preliminaries for Classes 5A and 6A. The 6A state finals begin at 5 p.m. Saturday with all three Edmond high schools partaking.

In a girls 100 Butterfly preliminary heat, up-and-coming Edmond North sophomore Ryanne Vance was swimming strong, but Norman North ace Madie Sarantakos hit the wall just ahead of the Lady Husky in 57.26. Vance finished in 59.57.

In the preliminaries Friday, the top eight placers in each event are qualified for Saturday’s medal rounds. In the girls 200 Yard Freestyle, Edmond Memorial’s Natalie Vorel placed third in 2:02.56 as the speedy water-cutting Sarantakos won by clear daylight in 1:56.34.

Vorel, a sophomore, also qualified for Saturday’s medal round in the 200 Yard Medley Relay as the Lady Bulldogs took eighth. Vorel was joined by Kelsey Kersgieter, Hailey Bozeman and Carmen Leibrock.

North took third in the event that included Alexa Acuna, Sarah Helton, Vance and Ally Robertson.

Edmond had a 4-5-6 finish in the 200 Yard boys Freestyle with North’s Alan Tran (4th, 1:48.61), Memorial’s Jonathan Le (5th, 1:48.69) and Memorial’s Francisco Ochoa (6th, 1:49.11).

The boys 200 Yard Medley Relay had the Huskies take third with the team of Garrett Duncan, Joe Short, Zack Padgett and Michael Britton.

Memorial was fifth with the squadron of Caleb Kliewer, Bennett Cook, Braden Davis and Nate Anderson.
