KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
Eight individual champions from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma were crowned at the United States Tennis Association Missouri Valley Sweet 16 Championship Sunday at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Mo. Stiff competition in each of the age brackets made for an exciting week of tennis.
In the girls 12 singles final Sunday morning, Edmond’s Grace Griggs was victorious over Vanessa Ong 6-3, 6-3 and then went on to triumph in the doubles competition with Brooklyn Hunter out of Topeka, Kan. Hunter was knocked out of the girls 12 singles after being defeated by Davi Patterson in the quarterfinals.
Also from Edmond competing in the national tournament was Edmond North star Nathan Roper, who won the Class 6A No. 1 singles Oklahoma state crown in May, David Hager and 12-year-old Mary Streller.
