North routs Westmoore, 65-27

EDMOND — No. 2-ranked Edmond North put on a dominating defensive performance on Thursday night as they advanced to the regional finals at the Siberian Gym with a 65-27 win over Westmoore.

The Lady Huskies (20-3) held Westmoore scoreless in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 22-0 lead, then allowed just five points in the second quarter as they led 36-5 at the break.

“We didn’t give up an offensive rebound in the first half, we focused all the way through. We didn’t have a game this year that we won all four quarters until the last two, which is a good sign,” North head coach Kevin Korstjens said. “We played well defensively, you rarely see a game where you hold a team to five points at halftime.”

North added another first of the season as every player on the team scored in the win.

Elizabeth Donohoe led the Lady Huskies with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Emily Davis finished with 10 points.  Jennifer Lee finished with nine as the shooting guard knocked down three 3-pointers, including two in the first quarter as the Lady Huskies jumped out to the big lead. TaNita Dewberry also had a big night with six points and seven rebounds.

Kelsey Philhower finished with seven points and Anna Kimsey had five.

The North starters left the game with five minutes remaining in the third with a 46-7 lead.

North will face Del City on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. after the Lady Eagles downed Choctaw by 30 points.

“Yeah, nobody expected that. But they created a lot of turnovers and crashed the offensive boards,” Korstjens said.
