FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Deer Creek baseball team rolled to its second straight win in the Oklahoma-Alabama Challenge as they blanked top-ranked Fairhope (Ala.) 5-0 on Tuesday night.
Michael Fulmer helped the Antlers earn their ninth win of the season with a dominating performance on the mound. The junior struck out 13 and gave up just one hit in the complete game.
“We’ve been down here three and four years ago and we lost to Fairhope both times, but this is supposed to be best club they’ve had,” Deer Creek coach Ron Moore said. “They’re the best team we’ve seen all year and that was the best high school performance by pitcher I’ve seen by far.”
Deer Creek took the lead with a three-run third inning. Ross Stracke and Bennett Aduddell both scored off an infield hit by Connor Patterson to make it a 2-0 game. Patterson proceeded to steal second and third base before coming home on an error by the catcher. Zach King then capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the 5-0 game.
The Antlers opened festival play with a 10-7 win at Spanish Fort on Monday night. After trailing 5-1 through the first four innings, they put the game away with a six-run fifth.
Aduddell got the rally going when he reached base on a dropped third strike with two outs. Brian Anderson later drove in his teammate with an RBI triple and scored on a single by Patterson, making it a 5-3. Deer Creek pushed two more runs across the plate in the sixth for the win.
Patterson finished the night 3-for-5 with two RBI and Tyler Price picked up the win after coming on in relief with the game tied up.
Deer Creek returns to action today when they play travel to Daphne High School to play Itawamba (Miss.) at 4 p.m.
