Deer Creek girls top Piedmont

EDMOND — The Deer Creek Lady Antlers took a 44-43 win over rival Piedmont to open the season Friday night.

Piedmont led 19-9 early in the second quarter, but Deer Creek cut the lead to 1 at half. The Lady Antlers took an 8-point lead in in the fourth quarter before Piedmont scored on a put-back to go up one point with less than a minute left.

After Deer Creek called a time out with :22 left, Alexa Adair fed Bayli Blanchard, who knocked down a short jumper with :08 remaining to put the Lady Antlers up one, and Piedmont's 15-foot shot in the last seconds missed.

Dakota Vann led Deer Creek with 16 points, follwed by Ashley Gibson with 10 and Alexa Adair with 8. Other DC scorers included Bayli Blanchard (4), Whitney Jones (3), Abbey Renner (2) and Shae Sheffler (1). Piedmont’s Sarah Parker led all scorers with 17.

Deer Creek is 1-0 and moves on to Durant for a tournamnent starting Friday.
