Broncho softball splits in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. — No. 16-ranked Central Oklahoma managed just one run in splitting a pair of games on the first day of the rugged NFCA Leadoff Classic here Friday.
Kalynn Schrock threw a complete-game five-hitter and Ally Dziadula drove in the lone run to lift the Bronchos to a 1-0 shutout of No. 6 Minnesota State-Mankato in the opener before Missouri-St. Louis handed UCO a 3-0 setback.
The Bronchos, now 4-2 on the young season, return Saturday to take on No. 2 UC San Diego and No. 8 Augustana.
UCO scored the only run it would need in the first game in the third inning when Hannah Justus reached on an error, stole second and came home on Dziadula’s double.
Schrock scattered five hits while striking out 10 and walking three in picking up the pitching win. She escaped a major jam in the third when the Mavericks loaded the bases with one out, getting out of trouble with a pair of fly outs.
The Bronchos were limited to five hits in the loss to UMSL.
