Thunder, OU honor 5 students Students receive scholarship to help pursue degrees

EDMOND — The Oklahoma City Thunder and the University of Oklahoma honored five high school seniors during April 17’s Thunder game with the OU/Thunder Scholarship. Savanna Avants of Edmond, Brennan Barger of Purcell, Morgan Delp of Choctaw, Christopher Womack of Marlow and Shelby Wood of Tulsa each received $1,000 toward a degree from OU, where they plan to attend in fall of 2013.

   Scholarship recipients were selected based on their academics, extracurricular activities and their willingness to use their degree to help the state of Oklahoma.

    Savanna Avants attends Deer Creek High School in Edmond and is involved with the National Honor Society, Key Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also volunteers with Race for the Cure and the Infant Crisis Center, where she serves on the Teen Board, and plans to pursue a degree in medicine to become a pediatrician.

     Morgan Delp is involved with National Honor Society, State Honor Society and student council and is a member of the pom squad at Choctaw High School. During her undergraduate studies, Delp plans to study microbiology with an emphasis in genetic research. Christopher Womack attends Bray-Doyle High School in Marlow and currently serves as the treasurer of his senior class. Womack is also involved with National Honor Society and FCCLA and plans to study aerospace engineering in the fall.

   Shelby Wood attends Bishop Kelly High School in Tulsa where she is a varsity cheerleader and is involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Spanish Club and student council. Wood plans to minor in Spanish while pursuing a degree in physical therapy to work in the sports medicine field.
