North freshmen girls win Edmond Memorial Invitational
The Edmond North freshmen girls basketball team refused to stay down during the final day of the Edmond Memorial Invitational. The Lady Huskies (9-1) overcame a slow start against Yukon before rolling to a 49-39 win in the championship game Saturday night at Memorial High School.
“I was really proud of way whole team played,” North coach Audra Smalley said. “They got behind in a few games, but never gave up and came back each time.”
Courtney Dike led the way with 13 points against Yukon and was named to the all-tournament team. Kaitlyn Peterson finished with 11 points and was also received the honor.
After falling behind in the first quarter against Yukon, the Lady Huskies picked it up in the second and took a 20-13 lead at halftime. That lead continued to grow in the second half as they led by eight at the end of the third before notching the double-digit victory.
North opened the tournament with a 58-4 drubbing of Norman North on Friday. Dike led the Lady Huskies with 17 points and Peterson kicked in 12.
They kept it up in the semifinal round Saturday afternoon as they knocked off host school Memorial 45-39. Dike again paced the team with 15 points, while Peterson had 12.
The Lady Huskies will face the Millerettes again Monday night in Yukon.
