The Edmond Santa Fe Lady Wolves used their stifling defense and a balanced scoring attack to overcome Choctaw 69-49 Friday night on homecoming.
Courtney Walker went 4-for-4 from the free throw line and Jasmine Hinton had six points as Santa Fe went up 22-10 in the first quarter, a lead that would be insurmountable.
Tamara Lee went 3-for-4 from the line and Walker scored six in the second period, and Santa Fe led 34-20 at the half.
In the third, Hinton and Lee sunk a pair of 3-pointers and Walker scored eight to put Santa Fe up 56-39.
The Lady Wolves went 5-for-8 from the stripe in the fourth quarter and outscored Choctaw 13-10 to take the win.
Walker led Santa Fe with a game-high 26 points, seven assists and four steals. Arielle Cooper racked up a double-double, bringing down 11 rebounds and scoring 11 points. Hinton had 13 points and six rebounds, and Tamara Lee put in 11 points.
Santa Fe is now 18-0 and remains at the top of the Class 6A rankings.
They will travel to 7-11 Putnam City on Tuesday.
Santa Fe 67, Choctaw 52 (boys)
The Santa Fe boys shot out to a 21-6 lead in the first quarter against Choctaw Friday night, led by nine points from Aaron Anderson that came in the form of one 3-pointer and a half-dozen free throws.
Anderson, the Wolves’ point guard, led Santa Fe with 14 points and was crowned homecoming king at halftime.
Santa Fe kept up the pressure in the second quarter, getting 3-pointers from Kade Jacobs and Caleb House as Anderson went 3-for-4 from the free throw line. The Wolves led 41-14 at the break.
Choctaw efforted to turn things around in the second half, holding the Wolves to just nine points in the third quarter and putting up 15 of their own. The Wolves entered the final frame with a 50-29 lead.
A whistle-filled fourth quarter saw the teams go to the free throw line 25 times, with Choctaw hitting 10 of 14 and Santa Fe going 6-for-11. The Yellowjackets outscored SF 23-17 in the fourth, but it was far from enough as the Wolves held onto the 67-52 win.
