Special to The Sun
ROSEMONT, Ill. —
After wrapping up a 2-0 weekend that featured a record-breaking performance, junior Micha Hancock, an Edmond Memorial High School graduate, earned her fourth Big Ten Setter of the Week honor this season. Hancock guided the Nittany Lions to wins against Northwestern and No. 20 Illinois. The selection marks the 14th overall weekly conference accolade of her career as well as her 10th setter of the week award all-time.
Hancock paced the Penn State offense to a .344 hitting clip against the Wildcats, distributing 63 assists, adding nine digs, three blocks and four kills. With two service aces, she moved into sole possession of first place on the Penn State all-time list with 237 career aces. Against the Fighting Illini, Hancock guided the Nittany Lions to at least a share of its 16th conference title in program history and 10th in the last 11 years. She logged four kills on eight errorless swings, dishing out 52 assists, eight digs and two blocks.
Earlier in the week, Hancock returned to the top of the NCAA standings in aces per set, averaging 0.70 per frame. After leading the nation in the category for the first five consecutive weeks, Hancock has been moving back and forth between the first and second spots in the standings.
Hancock and the rest of the Penn State women’s volleyball team (26-2, 17-1) will hit the road for their final road trip of the season this weekend, traveling to Ohio State and Nebraska. The Nittany Lions square off against the Buckeyes Wednesday at 6 p.m., before taking on the Cornhuskers Saturday at 7 p.m. live on the Big Ten Network.
