If the 14-point lead Deer Creek built in the first half of the regional finals on Saturday didn’t take the wind out of Ardmore’s sails, the 19-2 run the Lady Antlers went on to open the second half did.
Five players scored for DC in that overwhelming third period, led by Dakota Vann’s 7 and Bayli Blanchard’s 6. The Lady Tigers’ only bucket of the quarter was immediately answered and more when Vann hit a 3-pointer off a Blanchard assist.
Deer Creek opened the game on a similar run, outscoring the visitors 14-5 on balanced scoring from Blanchard, Ashley Gibson and Whitney Jones. Ardmore battled back in the second, putting up 13 points on the back of 8 points from Patrice Bennett, including 6 free throws. Deer Creek led at the half, 32-18.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Antlers 15-10 in the quarter behind a pair of 3-pointers, but Blanchard put up 4 in the quarter and Deer Creek reserves Shae Scheffler, Glenn Chesley and Kylie Trujillo all scored to maintain the Lady Antler advantage.
Deer Creek (23-2) will play in the first round of the area tournament on Thursday, at a site and time to be announced.
