Broncho golfers finish 5th at Lincoln

OKLAHOMA CITY — Central Oklahoma duplicated its first-round score and stayed where it was in the team standings on the final day of the RCB Bank Classic Tuesday at Lincoln Park Golf Course.

The Bronchos shot their second straight 300 at the par-71 East Course to finish the two-day, 36-hole tournament with a 600 total. St. Edward’s won the 17-team tourney at 588, followed by Southwestern Oklahoma (594), Dallas Baptist (597), Newman (599) and UCO.

Aly Seng paced the Bronchos in the final round with a 74, while Taylor Neidy and Erica Bensch both shot 75, Lindsey Bensch 76 and Katie Bensch 80. Tressa Brumley had a 76 playing as an individual.

“We didn’t play bad, but we still threw away too many shots,” UCO coach Michael Bond said.  “Everybody would play well for stretches and then make a couple of mistakes that really cost them.

“This team has a chance to be really good if we can eliminate some of the silly things that hurt us.”

Neidy tied for 10th with a 148 total as the low individual finisher for the Bronchos, while Seng and Lindsey Bensch tied for 17th at 150.

Seng was two-under-par during one eight-hole stretch to key her final-round 74. Neidy played her final eight holes one under to rally for a 75, while Erica Bensch birdied the final hole for her 75.

UCO is off next week before continuing the fall season Oct. 15-16 at the Dallas Baptist Classic.

Stafford had a final-round 75 to tie for third in the medalist race with a 148 total, just two shots behind the winner.  Rust had a 76 and was another stroke back in a tie for sixth at 149.

Landon Morgan shot 79 for the Bronchos, while Russ Puser had an 82 and Eric Kline an 83.  Tyler Hargus shot 77 playing as an individual.

William Kropp, a 24-year-old rookie from Edmond, managed to hold off local favorite Ángel Cabrera to win the 83rd Abierto OSDE del Centro presented by FiberCorp Sunday.
His victory at the Cordoba Golf Club, in Cabrera’s hometown of Villa Allende, was his first in just five career starts on the NEC Series-PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.
“My plan for the first half of the Tour season was to get adjusted to traveling across the region and playing new courses,” said Kropp, who had finished in a tie for third only three weeks ago in Guatemala. “It’s really a great bonus to win a tournament as important as this one early in the year.”
