North girls grind down Putnam City; Huskies fall to Pirates

EDMOND — The Edmond North Lady Huskies allowed zero points in the second quarter against Putnam City Tuesday night en route to a 33-18 win.

The entire first half of play was defensive-minded, as the teams combined for just three field goals. At the half, North held an 8-4 lead.

By comparison, the second half started with an offensive flurry, as the Lady Huskies doubled their point total, on jump shots by Kaitlyn Peterson and inside work by Alex Wiedenmann, with less than four minutes gone in the third quarter. They led 20-9 going into the final frame.

Five Lady Huskies scored in the fourth quarter to combat nine points from PC, giving Edmond North the 33-18 win.

Peterson led the Lady Huskies with eight points, and Wiedenmann followed with seven. Jhordyn Patton scored five, and Taylor Rolfs, Nicole Boyer and Brittny Dike each had four; Courtney Dike got on the board with a free throw to complete the Edmond North scoring.

The win moves the Lady Huskies to 6-11 on the year. Edmond North will travel to 5-12 Putnam City West on Friday.

Putnam City’s David Bush put down 23 points to lead the 10th-ranked Pirates to a 70-52 win at Edmond North Tuesday night.

The Huskies held Bush to just six points in the first half, as Edmond North kept it tight, trailing PC 18-14 after the first quarter and 30-22 at the half.

A 25-point output by the Pirates in the third quarter put the game out of reach for the Huskies, despite North outscoring PC 18-15 in the final frame. Eleven of Bush’ points came in the fourth, five of those on free throws.

Ed Baker was the only Husky in double figures, with 15 points. Blake Ruben and David Montgomery put up nine and eight points, respectively.

The 3-14 Huskies will travel to No. 13 Putnam City West on Friday.
