Central Oklahoma rowers Jenna Goodner and Michaela Stam have been named to the NCAA Division II All-America Team, it was announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.
Goodner was a first-team selection, while Stam was a second-team choice. All-America selections take into account a candidate’s strength of schedule, regular season record, end of season regatta results, nomination rank, coach’s comments and 2,000-meter ergometer score.
Goodner, a senior from Medford, is in her third year with the Bronchos. She’s been a mainstay on the Varsity 8+ team the past two years and will be making her second appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships this weekend.
A senior from Enid, Stam is in her second year at UCO. She has stroked for the Varsity 8+ the majority of the season and will be making her first national championship appearance. Stam also won the Presidential Award from the UCO Athletic Department this spring.
It’s the second straight year for the Bronchos to have two All-Americans, with Jessica Lawson and Rachel Kliewer becoming UCO’s first-ever rowing All-Americans last season.
Stam, senior Samatha Elliott and sophomore Jenni Hagen were also recognized by the CRCA as Scholar-Athletes, the first UCO rowers to earn that distinction.
To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete honors, the candidate had to of spent 75 percent of the season in either the Varsity 8+ or 4+ and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above for her career.
“We are extremely proud of these young women,” head coach Andy Derrick said. “They are exceptional examples of UCO athletics, both on the water and in the classroom. Though the All-Americans are individual awards, this is a team sport, and our whole team can take pride in putting two of our athletes on such a prestigious list.”
