The Edmond North swimming teams finished their dual season Friday by defeating 5A power Altus at the Altus City Pool. For the girls, it marked the third year in a row that they have not lost in dual competition.
Senior Emma Lukowski won two individual events, taking the 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle for the top-ranked Lady Huskies. Seniors Megan Kendrick and Meagan Bobo each won as well, with Kendrick taking the 200 Individual Medley and Bobo picking up gold in the 100 Breaststroke. Freshman Julia Kirby also won two individual events, with victories in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle. The 200 Free Relay team of Kirby, Katie Fuchs, Bobo and Kelsey Castillo took first as did the 400 Free Relay team of Kirby, Ashley Pippin, Lukowski and Olivia Metzer.
In the boys meet, Garrett Duncan and Michael Britton each won two individual events, with Duncan taking the 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle, while Britton won the 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. In addition Alan Tran won the 200 Individual Medley and Joe Short the 100 Freestyle for the Huskies. North won two relays with the 200 Medley Relay team of Short, Duncan, Britton and Riley Fant taking first as did the 200 Free Relay team of Short, Tran, Britton and Duncan.
“I was pleased to see the team step up to the challenge,” said coach Steve Riggs. “The Altus boys are a state championship contender in 5A but our guys raced well in getting the win. The girls demonstrated that they are the state champions and they swam like it today.”
All three Edmond schools will participate in the Edmond City Championships Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Oklahoma Christian University pool.
