Memorial wrestlers drop tough match to Midwest City

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — The Edmond Memorial Bulldog wrestling team welcomed Midwest City for a dual Tuesday evening, and went down in defeat, 44-27.

“We wrestled really well most of time,” head coach Darren Huff said. “We just had a lot of close calls go the other way and didn’t get four falls that we deserved. It makes it tough when you know it’s going to be a close dual before the dual starts. Then the kids put us in position to win and you see that we are pinning these guys but we don’t get the mat slapped.”

Memorial got behind early but battled back with falls from Mark Delay and Alec Warren. Cole Boker and Jonah Moore picked up major decisions, putting the ’Dogs within 6. Midwest City then picked up three falls, one of which the coach disputed.

Memorial’s Tristan McBee gained a major decision, which the coach said should have been a fall as well, and Jeremy Morgan won 4-1 in the last match of the night.

“The guys gave tremendous effort and are getting better each week,” Huff said. “They’re getting more competitive and are starting to focus and wrestle with more aggression. This was a tough loss considering the way we wrestled. You have to have a lot of things go right and do a lot of pinning, and we did a lot of pinning but for some reason we were missing getting the mat slapped.”

Memorial is next in action Thursday at Altus.
