The Edmond High School swimming teams had lots of success at the Mid-State and Metro Conference Championships Saturday at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center.
Memorial finished second in the Mid-State meet with Annah Baykal winning two individual events for the Lady bulldogs. She won the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke, and then teamed with Katie Kersgieter, Alyx Siemer and Natalie Vorel to win the 400 Free Relay. For the boys, Naresh Naik won the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Butterfly while Zac Cook took the 500 Freestyle. The two then joined Jonathan Ye and Nate Anderson to win the 400 Free Relay.
The Metro Conference was dominated by North which won both team titles, with Santa Fe finishing third in both the girls and boys divisions. The Lady Huskies won every event with Abbie Imes and Rylee Linhardt being double event winners. Imes won the 50 Free and 100 Butterfly while Linhardt took the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke. Other event winners were Amanda Greenlee in the 100 Freestyle, Jess Graro in the 100 Breaststroke, Ally Robertson in the 200 Freestyle and Ann-Marie Stowe in the 500 Free. Relay winners were Linhardt, Graro, Imes and Robertson in the 200 Medley Relay, Linhardt, Stowe, Imes and Robertson in the 200 Free Relay, and Graro, Stowe, Greenlee and Robertson in the 400 Free Relay. Sara Riggs was the top finisher for Santa Fe as she took second in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle.
The North boys won nine events with Santa Fe winning the other two. Garrett Duncan was a double event winner as he took the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke. Other event winners for North included Michael Britton in the 50 Freestyle, Alan Tran in the 500 Freestyle, Riley Fant in the 100 Backstroke and Joe Short in the 100 Freestyle. North relay wins were Fant, Garrett Duncan, Short and Britton in the 200 Medley Relay, Cole Duncan, Britton, Zack Padgett and Tran in the 200 Free Relay, and Fant, Tran, Short and Garrett Duncan in the 400 Free Relay. For Santa Fe, Colton Laramore won the 200 Freestyle while Brandon Le picked up gold in the 100 Butterfly.
“It was a very solid performance by all the Edmond schools,” said head coach Steve Riggs. “We had specific things to accomplish and many of the swimmers had great success in achieving goals. There were many new state qualifiers, and the teams are set up well for the state meet.”
