ST. JOSEPH, Mo. —
Central Oklahoma put four players in the 70s and rolled to a runaway win in the NCAA Division II Super Regional Three Tournament in St. Joseph, Mo. Tuesday.
It’s the first-ever regional title for the Bronchos, who got 77s from Erica Bensch and Taylor Neidy and 78s from Aly Seng and Tressa Brumley in firing a final-round 310 at the par-72 St. Joseph Country Club.
UCO finished the three-day, 54-hole event with a 951 total to claim its third straight tournament win, finishing 13 shots ahead of runner-up Augustana and 24 clear of third-place Northeastern State. Those three teams advance to the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championships, set for May 15-18 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
“This is a great win for our program and we’re really excited about moving on to the national tournament,” head coach Michael Bond said. “We came here with the intention of winning this tournament and it feels good to accomplish that goal. Now we’re looking forward to seeing what we can do in Florida.”
The Bronchos ended up with three players in the top 10 as Seng finished second with a 233 total, Erica Bensch third at 236 and Neidy 10th at 240.
Erica Bensch shot 37-40 for her 77, making one birdie on each nine, while Neidy had steady nines of 39-38 during her round.
Brumley had the key score for UCO after struggling the first two days, making one birdie in shooting a front-nine 38 before coming back with a 40. Seng made two birdies in making the turn at 37 and followed with a 41 for her 78.
The Bronchos also got a final-round 83 from Katie Bensch.
