Eagles rally for first conference win
ALVA, Okla. - Oklahoma Christian picked up the first Sooner Athletic Conference win of its new baseball era Thursday afternoon at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The Eagles pounded out 14 hits on their way to a 10-7 win. OC moved to 6-9-1 overall and 1-9 in the SAC with the victory.
OC trailed 7-4 entering the ninth inning, but the Eagles plated six runs in the frame go up for good.
Jeff Davis drove in Jordan Price and Ray Long on a no-out double to get the comeback started. Davis then came around on a Tyler Gipson single to knot the game in a 7-7 tie.
With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, Austin Reid stroked a two-RBI double that brought Josh Balch and Gipson home. After Quaid Johns scored on a wild pitch, the Eagles held a 10-7 lead.
In the bottom half, Tim Dodd retired the first two Rangers on groundouts to the short stop before allowing a double to Clint Dodds. But Dodd struck Christopher Glass out looking to squash the threat and earn the win.
OC jumped out 2-0 in the first inning when Gipson drove in Davis and Price.
Stephen Sutton, the Eagles� starter in the game, allowed just one hit in the first five frames.
NWOSU finally got on the scoreboard with a two-run sixth that tied the game.
The Rangers tacked on five more runs in the seventh. The big blow came Glass single that plated a pair.
But the Eagles shut NWOSU down from there.
Josh Balch blasted a two-run homer in the eighth that brought OC within striking distance and set up the final frame.
Gipson was 3-for-5 with two RBI�s and two runs scored. Balch was 2-for-4 with three runs driven in.
Davis (2-for-5), Price (2-for-6), Johns (2-for-4) and Reid (2-for-2) all had two-hit games.
Sutton missed out on his first win of the season despite a solid effort. The Rosemark, Tenn., native allowed five runs on only six hits in seven innings of work.
Dodd (2-0) was the winner after a stellar relief appearance of just one hit and no runs over two innings.
The Eagles and Rangers will play again on Saturday afternoon at OC�s Dobson Field. The first pitch will go plateward at 12 p.m.

Lady Wolves headed back to state tournament
It would have been hard enough for Edmond Santa Fe to make it to state without the services of four-year starter Jimi Blagowsky alone. Now throw in the fact they did it with sophomore sensation Courtney Walker on the bench for the second and third quarter’s due to foul trouble, going up against a hungry Yukon squad, and you get the sense it was destiny.
Walker was on the court when it mattered most, though. The guard calmly knocked down a pair of free throws with 6.7 seconds remaining to give the Lady Wolves a 48-47 win. The 5-7 guard got to the line after taking a hard foul when she drove in for a layup. -
Fourth quarter surge sends Wolves to state tournament
The top-ranked Edmond Santa Fe boys let a trip to state slip away in the Area Championship on Friday, but they weren’t about to let it happen again on Saturday night. After getting off to a sluggish start, the Wolves got back on track in the second half as they punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 60-50 win over a relentless Mustang squad at Choctaw High School.
“I know we’ve beaten them twice earlier, but that definitely wasn’t the same team we played earlier in the year,” Santa Fe senior Drew Hall said. “They just played hard, they played aggressive, hit big shots and we got lucky to come out with a win. We hung around and finally started playing well and got a good win against an underrated team.” -
Bulldogs rout Enid to advance to state tourney
The Edmond Memorial boys used a dominating defensive performance Saturday night to earn a trip to the state tournament. The No. 7-ranked Bulldogs held Enid standout Chris Fitzpatrick to just 12 points as they crushed the Plainsmen 66-38 in the Area Consolation Finals in Sapulpa.
“It’s a pretty amazing feat for these young men,” Memorial coach Shane Cowherd said. “Not a lot of people expected much from them coming into the season, but they believed in themselves and one another. And now they get chance to show that on the state’s biggest stage.” -
Muskogee edges Memorial in Area finals
Clinging to a two-point lead with 10 seconds remaining Muskogee stole an Edmond Memorial inbound pass and took it coast-to-coast to hold off the Bulldogs for a 57-53 win.
The loss sent the Roughers to the state tournament, while the Bulldogs still have one more chance as they face Enid in the consolation finals tonight at 6:30 in Sapulpa.
“The kid made a great play. I thought we did the things we set out to do going into the game, we just came up a little short,” Memorial head coach Shane Cowherd said. -

Bulldogs net city title with 3-1 win over North
Stuart Turnipseed was the hero for Edmond Memorial in Tuesday night’s win over Santa Fe, and the he had no problem playing the part again against North. The senior forward scored two goals on Friday night helping the Bulldogs clinch the city championship with a 3-1 win the Huskies.
“It was a nice win and good to put another one under our belt,” Memorial coach Brent Young said. “When you come out for a rivalry game the kids are going to be pumped, they’re going to play hard and they did that tonight. It was fun to watch.” -

With one Edlam win already in the bag, the Edmond Memorial girls were hoping to sow up the city championship on their home turf Friday night. But the North girls had other plans as they pounded the Lady Bulldogs in the second half for a 6-1 win.

State will have to wait
Going into Friday night’s battle with No. 5-ranked Midwest City the top-ranked Santa Fe boy’s had never won an Area title and after a performance where they were out-hustled and beat on second-chance points time and again, it still hasn’t happened.
