Santa Fe's Helms tied for eighth

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Edmond Santa Fe golfer Matt Helms sits in a five-way tie for eighth place at the AJGA Arkansas Junior at Blessings Golf Club.

The junior-to-be moved up nine spots on Tuesday after carding a 4-over-par 76.

Helms posted a 78 in the first round of the competition.

Helms picked up birdies on hole Nos. 5, 6 and 17 on the round.

Jesse Droemer (Sealy, Texas) currently holds an eight stroke advantage over the closest competitor, with rounds of 75-66, as he is 3-under for the tournament.

My goal on this course was anything around 75, so this is the best I could have hoped for, I made a lot of putts, Droemer said. I was hitting fairways and greens and two-putting on the front nine, then I got going on the back and almost holed out twice from the fairway.

Memorial freshman-to-be Taylor Moore is tied for 33rd with scores of 81-80 in his first two rounds.

Derek Meyers is tied for 51st, while Chase Griggs is tied for 66th with Colby Vollmann.

There are several players from Oklahoma in the field, with Colton Staggs (Tulsa), tied for eighth, Cameron Ross (El Reno) tied at 23rd, Jack Fiscus (Tulsa) is tied for 27th, Jordan Perceful (Muskogee) is tied for 33rd, while Zach Tucker (Oklahoma City) is tied for 40th.
