Lady Antlers take second at PC Tournament

The Deer Creek softball team wrapped up a successful weekend at the Putnam City Tournament. The Lady Antlers swept through pool play, outscoring their opponents 38-0, but dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Piedmont in Saturday’s championship game.

After falling behind by a pair of runs, the Lady Antlers fought back and tied things up in the top of the seventh inning. But Piedmont was able to squeak out the win, when a runner scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh.

“It boosted our morale a bit,” Deer Creek coach Erin Regier said about the tournament. “I think we’re playing pretty good, but we’re a team that plays to the level of our competition and we’re still trying to get over that hump.”

The Lady Antlers opened the tournament with a 15-0 win over Putnam City West and a 10-0 victory over Anadarko Thursday. They returned Friday to beat Northeast 9-0 and Noble 4-0.

Senior Whitney Wilfong sparked the Lady Antlers offense in the PC Tournament.

“Whitney Wilfong had an outstanding weekend, she was on base almost every time,” Regier said.

Deer Creek got right back at it Monday night, blanking Western Heights by a final score of 10-0. Christie Yetter had a strong outing for the win.

Deer Creek will be at home tonight for Senior Night. The Lady Antlers host Carl Albert, with a scheduled start of 6:30 p.m.
