Santa Fe freshmen win Mustang J.V. Tourney

The Santa Fe freshmen volleyball team competed in the Mustang J.V. Tournament over the weekend and came away victorious, beating Putnam City West, Choctaw, Mustang, Broken Arrow and Norman on its way to the title.

None of the teams came close to beating the Lady Wolves (18-1), who didn’t lose a set the entire tournament.

The Lady Wolves faced Broken Arrow in the semifinals, winning 25-17, 27-25. Chelsea Diehl had nine kills in the match, while Kristin Smelser had 24 digs. Sydney Fioretti had three service aces.

Santa Fe knocked off Norman in the championship match, by scores of 25-20, 25-17. Kau’i Kanahele had six kills, followed by Fioretti who had five. Smelser had 26 digs in the match.

Fioretti was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while Diehl was an All-Tournament team selection.
