Lough believes OCA has numbers to matchup with Kiefer
The Oklahoma Christian Academy football team is still searching for their first win of the season, but a improved lineup has head coach Keith Lough excited for Friday night.
“For first time all year we will have eight best kids on the field,” Lough said.
The first-year head coach is hoping that could make a difference when they travel to Kiefer (3-1). The Trojans may not be OCA’s toughest opponent, but they should put up a fight. The Trojans have knocked off Welch, Bowlegs and Agra, while losing 52-12 against No. 2-ranked Davenport.
“They’re a solid ball club, but not as good as Weleetka or Depew,” Lough said. “And I think we’re getting a little better, our guys are figuring out the game and figuring out what they need to do to accomplish their assignments.”
The Eagles’ defense will need to pick up their game this week against Kiefer’s spread attack. The Trojans like to air it out, but when nothing is available quarterback Ostin Broadhead is not afraid to run it himself. Last week the junior rushed for over 100 yards in the 36-12 win over Agra.
“They spread stuff out of a shotgun, we’ll just try to cover the field and contain their quarterback,” Lough said.
Along with Broadhead’s legs, the Eagles will need to keep an eye on the Trojans’ top two receiving threats, speedy wideout Josh Tyre and tight end Jake Stice.
Lough was especially pleased with Jordan Blount’s performance on defense last week, when he recorded eight tackles in his first action of the season. Blount will team up with Stephen Brown to give OCA a strong linebacker duo.
“That gives us some speed and more size in middle of the field that we’ve been lacking, and I’m looking forward to see how they play together,” Lough said.
Defensively the Trojans run a basic 3-2 scheme and bring a lot of pressure. Lough said he plans to try and turn Kiefer’s aggressive play against them.
“Agra had success throwing the ball, we’re going to try and run around them, beat them through the middle and get them to over-pursue,” Lough said.
Lough said he will stick with Michael Thibodeau at quarterback, and plans to utilize Brown as a fullback. Last week Thibodeau scored his first touchdown of the season, when he scored on a quarterback sneak.
The Eagles and Trojans will take the field Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Deer Creek boys did their best to hang with El Reno, but in the end the Indians’ backcourt pressure was too much. The No. 9-ranked Indians pulled in front by double digits in the second half before holding off the Antlers for a 72-60 win Monday night at the Leroy Estes Fieldhouse.

Southern Nazarene tops Lady Eagles
The Oklahoma Christian women’s basketball team used a second half rally to pull within two against Southern Nazarene University, but couldn’t close the gap. The Crimson Storm used a 14-3 run in the final 13 minutes of the game for a 70-53 win Saturday night at the Sawyer Center.

Local wrestling teams staying west for regionals
Local high school wrestling teams will not have to travel far for regionals, which are set for Feb. 19-20. All three Edmond schools will compete at Yukon in the Class 6A West Regional while Deer Creek is set to host the 5A West Regional again this year.

Saints win in a Brees, 31-17
