OCS brings win streak to Minco

The Oklahoma Christian School football team takes a three-game win streak into tonight’s game at Minco, where the Saints should be heavily favored.

Minco (1-5, 1-4) has had trouble scoring — the Bulldogs have scored 61 total points — an area where the Saints have excelled. Heck, the Saints (4-2, 3-1) scored 63 points last week.

And what excites OCS head coach Derek Turner, is how they’ve been scoring points.

“We’ve scored points in every possible way,” Turner said. “Defense, special teams, every way possible.”

Turner said the turning point in the season came after his teams loss to Christian Heritage.

“We flip flopped some guys on the offensive line. We had two guys that communicated really well on one side, and we had two guys with little experience on the other, so we swapped an extrovert for an introvert, and that’s made all the difference for us. Both sides communicate now,” Turner said.

Minco runs a lot of sets on offense, and has some good athletes.

“Their quarterback is a good athlete, and they have some good receivers. They are small, which is something we’ve seen a lot of this year, but they are definitely athletic, which is something we’re going to have to be ready for,” Turner said.

Defense has been the strength for the Bulldogs this season, as only three teams have scored over 27 points against them.

Kenton Richardson leads the defensive attack from the middle linebacker spot where he has racked up several tackles.

“They like to attack defensively, they are wide open. They blitz a lot, so we have to be able to pick those guys up,” The head coach said. “They have a very good middle linebacker, he flies around all over the place.”

Minco comes into tonight on a two-game losing streak, falling 48-15 to Watonga last week. The Bulldogs lone win came against Thomas, by a score of 27-6.

Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Minco.
