OKLAHOMA CITY – With the playoffs just around the corner, Edmond North could not afford to slip-up on Friday night. And quarterback Cody Crabaugh helped make sure that did not happen. The senior completed 16-of-18 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns, as the Huskies rolled Putnam City West 49-17 Friday night at Putnam City Stadium.
“The line blocked, the running backs ran well and we could do whatever we wanted on offense, and the defense came up with some big stops for the win,” Crabaugh said.
As prolific as Crabaugh looked, much credit was due to his sure-handed wideout, Trent Braden. The senior finished with 11 catches for 141 yards.
“Trent was wide open all night, everyone was wide open it didn’t really seem like anyone was out there guarding them,” Crabaugh said.
Dombek had hoped for a fast start to spark his squad, after a rough loss to Midwest City last week. The Huskies (4-4, 4-1) did just that, taking a 14-0 lead with just four minutes gone in the first quarter.
“It just seems if we get something going offensively early then we seem to have success through the rest of the game,” North coach Jeremy Dombek said.
Brad Morton put North on the board first with a 35-yard touchdown run on the first series of the game. After a blocked punt, the Huskies took over on the Patriots six-yard line and needed only two plays to find the end zone with a two-yard TD grab by tight end Blake Gatewood.
The Patriots (0-8, 0-5) cut into the Huskies' lead in the second quarter. After Joe Aska's one-yard run gave North a 21-3 lead, the Patriots went 80 yards downfield for their first touchdown of the night. On a fourth-and-10 from the North 36-yard line, Daniel Farrow found Ricky Organ in the end zone.
Farrow briefly put the Huskies on edge in the second half. On the first play of the second half he broke a 76-yard touchdown run, making it a 28-17 game.
But the Huskies quickly put the game away with three unanswered third quarter-touchdowns. North went up 42-17 with a 31-yard touchdown catch Ryan Kearney and a 19-yard score by Aska.
Xavier Smith added to that lead when he scooped up a Patriots' fumble and returned it 12-yards for the score.
Farrow finished the night with 194 yards on the ground and one touchdown.
The Huskies will now turn their attention towards a tough game next week against Edmond Memorial (6-2, 4-1)
“This win was huge going into Memorial, we needed this so we can have some confidence,” Braden said.

The Deer Creek boys did their best to hang with El Reno, but in the end the Indians’ backcourt pressure was too much. The No. 9-ranked Indians pulled in front by double digits in the second half before holding off the Antlers for a 72-60 win Monday night at the Leroy Estes Fieldhouse.

Southern Nazarene tops Lady Eagles
The Oklahoma Christian women’s basketball team used a second half rally to pull within two against Southern Nazarene University, but couldn’t close the gap. The Crimson Storm used a 14-3 run in the final 13 minutes of the game for a 70-53 win Saturday night at the Sawyer Center.

Local high school wrestling teams will not have to travel far for regionals, which are set for Feb. 19-20. All three Edmond schools will compete at Yukon in the Class 6A West Regional while Deer Creek is set to host the 5A West Regional again this year.
