The No. 9-ranked Edmond North girls basketball team shrugged off a slow start to rout Yukon 54-27 on Tuesday night at the Siberian Gym.
Elizabeth Donohoe had 17 points and nine rebounds in the win.
Both teams turned the ball over several times in the first half, as North built a 22-12 lead.
“I thought in the second half the biggest thing was to limit our turnovers, which we did. And we executed on offense. We had 18 turnovers in the first half, and I think we finished with only six or eight in the second,” North head coach Kevin Korstjens said.
“Defensively I thought we turned it up in the second half.”
The Lady Huskies outscored Yukon 10-3 in the third quarter, with Donohoe scoring six of those points. Tanita Dewberry dropped in a basket at the 4:27 mark to push North’s lead to 28-15. Donohoe and Ashley Webb finished the quarter with a pair of scores, to up the Lady Huskies lead to 32-15.
North’s Caroline Collins closed the door on the Lady Millers scoring seven of her 10 points early in the fourth.
“We have some maturity and girls with experience which enables them to overcome the early mistakes. Even if we have a bad half like we did out here, we’re able to overcome all of that,” North head coach Kevin Korstjens said.
Anna Kimsey finished with seven points and four rebounds, Rachel Wood had eight points, Dewberry had five points and 10 rebounds. Jennifer Lee chipped in three points.
North will take on Edmond Memorial J.V. in the first round of the Edmond “Open” Tournament at 3:30 p.m. All girls games will be held at Edmond Memorial.
“It’s good to be 2-0 headed into the tournament, it’s a new tournament, so it will be new to everybody, it should be fun,” Korstjens said.
