The No. 5-ranked North girls basketball team rolled to an easy 67-44 win over Putnam City on Friday night, using smothering defensive play, which limited the Lady Pirates to just 15 points in the first half.
“We did a really good job on Young and Thompson, their two best offensive players. Not just the two girls guarding them, but the other three on the court. They did a good job of knowing when they got the ball, and knowing when to help out. Just a great defensive effort tonight,” Lady Husky head coach Kevin Korstjens said.
North (15-4) jumped out to a 41-15 halftime lead and never looked back.
Elizabeth Donohoe scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down six boards, while Anna Kimsey finished with 15 and three.
TaNita Dewberry had a solid outing with eight points and seven rebounds, and Caroline Collins finished with seven points.
North will host Choctaw on Tuesday, before playing its makeup game against Putnam City North on Thursday.
