OKLAHOMA CITY — When D.J. White and Robert Vaden were college roommates at Indiana, they'd occasionally chat about the future and envision themselves playing in the NBA.
Just not on the same team.
The two former Hoosiers were reunited last week when the Oklahoma City Thunder traded for the rights to Vaden, who was selected 54th overall by Charlotte in the NBA draft.
White sent Vaden a text message saying 'Congratulations' right after Vaden was picked and then had to revise it a few minutes later when he learned of the trade.
"Welcome to the family" was the new message.
Vaden and White spent two seasons together at Indiana before Vaden transferred. He followed former Hoosiers coach Mike Davis to Alabama-Birmingham, where he spent the last two seasons.
