Huskies hope to get back on track against Jaguars

Eric Spruill

EDMOND — With third place in the district wrapped up the Edmond North football team looks to build some momentum tonight as they face Westmoore, before entering the playoffs next week.

The Huskies (7-2, 4-2) will be trying to rebound from an emotional loss to Memorial last week. And they should receive a big boost with offensive lineman Tyler Goodrich back.

“Hopefully they (Qua’Don Henderson and Travis Townsend) will be better, but those two will probably be sore all the way through the playoffs. But the one player no one talks about is Tyler Goodrich, our starting right guard, who has been out for four weeks,” North head coach Jeremy Dombek said.

“You can see a big dropoff offensively for us, when he left the lineup, and hopefully he will be back with us on Friday night.”

Westmoore (3-6, 2-4) is coming off of back-to-back losses to Norman and Lawton Eisenhower.

“Westmoore has some talented players. We are licking our wounds a little bit ... but we can’t take Westmoore lightly,” Dombek said. “We need to get some momentum going into the playoffs, we need to get our wheels back under us.”

North’s potential playoff opponent’s were trimmed down to two teams on Thursday night. It will be either Southmoore or Lawton. If Mustang defeats Southmoore tonight, they will face Southmoore, who would finish second in 6A-1. If Southmoore wins, they would face Lawton, who defeated Norman North on Thursday. Lawton already owns a head-to-head win over Mustang, which would bump the Broncos to third place.

Dombek is hoping his team can keep up its defensive intensity that it has shown throughout the season.

“They played their hearts out last Friday night, I’m extremely proud of this football team. It was two very good defensive teams out there last week, they just made the plays to win. But we need to regroup, get ready for the playoffs, I still think we have a very good football team,” the head coach said.

North will host Westmoore at 7:30 at Wantland Stadium.
