No. 4-ranked Edmond North dominated Class 4A No. 2-ranked Anadarko in the paint on its way to a 63-48 win to advance to the finals of the Edmond Open on Friday night at Santa Fe High School.
It is the second straight year the Lady Huskies have made it to the championship round of the tournament.
North (4-0) got 27 points from Elizabeth Donohoe, who played sparingly in the third quarter after receiving a bloody nose, while TaNita Dewberry scored 17 and Anna Kimsey added 15 points.
Donohoe and Dewberry combined to score all of North’s 15 points in the first quarter, as the duo took advantage of several second chance opportunities, giving North a 15-6 lead.
And that theme continued in the second quarter, but Anadarko did make a brief comeback.
The Lady Warriors fought to within 23-20 on a three-pointer by Tiffany Bellamy, but the Lady Huskies used a 8-0 run — two baskets apiece by Donohoe and Kimsey — to take a 31-20 halftime lead.
Donohoe scored 16 in the first half alone.
The Lady Huskies started the third quarter just like they ended the second using a 11-0 run to building a 42-20 lead. Kimsey scored seven points during the run.
North lead 47-28 heading into the fourth and would once again build a 22-point lead. But the Lady Warriors didn’t leave without putting up a fight.
A basket by Lakota Beatty trimmed Anadarko’s deficit to 54-43 with 2:36 remaining. But baskets by Donohoe, Kimsey and Dewberry sealed the game down the stretch.
The Lady Huskies lost a heartbreaker to Memorial in the finals of last year’s tournament. This year they will have a new opponent as the Lady Bulldogs fell to Bishop McGuinness 59-40. The Lady Irish will try to do an Edmond sweep on Saturday night, as they defeated Santa Fe on Thursday.
Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
