OKLAHOMA CITY —
During the regular season, the Choctaw Lady Yellowjackets swept Edmond North but one victory came without Lady Husky standout Kaitlyn Peterson out on the floor.
On Thursday night in a Class 6A regional at Putnam City High School, Peterson tallied a deuce inside with 2:12 left before intermission to bolster North to a 21-12 advantage. But Choctaw bounced back to begin the third quarter on a 9-2 run en route to a 45-41 triumph, thus putting the skids on Edmond North’s season.
The Jackets, like the Huskies, took advantage of their opponent’s cold shooting in each half. In the opener, North was led by Courtney Dike’s 9 points and capitalized on offensive rebounds to gain a 24-17 cushion at the break. Choctaw nabbed the latter half by a 28-17 count, including a 17-6 third period.
With 3:26 left in regulation, Dike kept the Lady Huskies in the contest with a big 3-pointer to climb back to within 41-37 and was ensued by teammate Brittany Knight, who grabbed an offensive board, converted the putback and tallied a free shot for a conventional three-point play to pull Edmond North to within 41-40.
Choctaw defensive whiz Kylee Hicks blocked a shot on the left block with 15 seconds to play and the Huskies missed two treys in the final five seconds as the Lady Jackets sealed the come-from-behind victory.
Dike led all scorers with a dozen points followed by Peterson’s 11.
