Cowgirls hold off Texas Tech

STILLWATER — Tiffany Bias scored 10 points — four of them coming on free throws in the final minute — as Oklahoma State held off Texas Tech 53-49 on Wednesday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we needed a win and I’m proud of our players,” Oklahoma State coach Jim Littell said. “I thought we did a really good job defensively, coming off a game where we gave up 80 points. We had some blown assignments, but for the most part, we did a good job of guarding. It’s a huge win for us.”

Liz Donohoe was a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 11 points and 9 rebounds, but it was the Cowgirls’ defense that paved the way for the victory.

“It’s exciting to win like this because we’re a quick team and a defensive team,” Oklahoma State junior Toni Young said. “We let our offense come to us, but we let our offense try to pressure opponents as much as we can.”

Oklahoma State held the Red Raiders to 16.7 percent from 3-point range and forced 17 turnovers. Texas Tech also struggled from the free-throw line, making 10-of-21 shots.

“We just have to find a way to make baskets,” Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry said. “I’m not disappointed in our ability to get open. We just had a lot of shots that rimmed out.”
