Edmond teams head to spring break tourneys; Deer Creek, Santa Fe get differing results

EDMOND — The Edmond and Deer Creek baseball teams are playing in various spring break tournaments at home and around the country this week.

Edmond Santa Fe and Deer Creek are at the Coach Bob National Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. The tournament features 97 teams from 11 states.

Deer Creek bested Montgomery Bell, Tenn., 11-9 on Tuesday behind shortstop Jordan Boyer's 3-run, 3-RBI day, including a home run. The Antlers won the battle of the bucks on Monday, defeating Deer Valley, Ariz., 10-3. Tucker Fox had 3 runs and 3 RBI; D.J. Niebrugge scored a pair and drove in 3; and Ben Heigle scattered 6 hits and 3 earned runs over five innings. Deer Creek will play Bartlesville, Okla., and Chandler, Ariz., today.

Santa Fe dropped a 16-5 contest against Las Vegas Bishop Gorman on Tuesday, despite a 2-for-2, 2-run day from Garrett Greenwood. On Monday, the Wolves fell to O'Connor, Ariz., 9-8, despite hot days from Greenwood (3-for-4), Quin Walbergh (3-for-5, 2 RBIs) and Xavier Sundman (2-for-5, 3 runs). Santa Fe will play Quartz Hill, Calif., at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Edmond North is playing in the Aggie Classic Baseball Tournament in Cantonment, Fla., this week. The Huskies were slated to take on Escambia of Pensacola, Fla.; Navarre, Fla.; and Hueytown, Ala.

Later this week, Edmond Memorial will host the Edmond Festival, beginning Thursday with the following schedule:
