UCO tennis squad scores shutout

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — Central Oklahoma dominated from start to finish en route to a 9-0 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association drubbing of Lincoln at the University of Central Oklahoma Friday.

It was the fourth straight win for the Bronchos of eighth-year head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey, who improved to 11-6 on the season and 5-1 in league play. UCO hosts No. 18-ranked and defending MIAA champion Southwest Baptist at noon Saturday.

“We came out and took care of business,” Nikitina-Helvey said. “The girls played well and they did a good job focusing on today’s match and not looking forward to tomorrow. It will be a big challenge for us against Southwest Baptist and it’s a great opportunity for us.”

The Bronchos weren’t tested in rolling to its second 9-0 shutout of the season, dropping just six games in the entire match that took less than two hours to complete.

Emilie Semo and Lauren Allison didn’t lose a game in the rout of the Blue Tigers, teaming up for an 8-0 blanking at No. 3 doubles before both posted 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in singles.
