EDMOND — Deer Creek scored a pair of defensive touchowns and a TD on special teams to smoke Western Heights 51-7 Thursday night at Deer Creek High School.

After Alec James hit pay dirt for his second score of the opening half, the Antlers held a 17-0 lead and never looked back. James hauled in a 55-yard pass from Caden Sander and barrelled in for a score and then plunged in from a yard out. James’ final TD came in the third period on a five-yard run.

Deer Creek outrushed the Jets, 244-87.

After Western Heights got within 17-7 to make a game of it, the Antlers rattled off 34 unanswered points for the 51-7 final.

Sander scored the remaining offensive touchdown weaving 47 yards for a score.

On defense, Blake Landon stepped in front of a Jet pass and scooted 74 yards for a TD and fellow Antler Jackson Smith took an interception back 80 yards to the house.

The special teams score came when Cole Verble snagged the pigskin in the end zone on a blocked punt.

Western Heights fell to 0-7 while the Antlers stepped up a notch to 5-2 and will clash with Guthrie Oct. 25 at home in a pivotal district matchup. Guthrie clobbered El Reno Thursday, 52-zilch.
