The top two swimming programs on the West side of the state squared off Friday at the OKCCC Aquatic Center, with the Edmond schools and the Norman schools battling each other with split team results.
In the girls meet, the top-ranked Edmond North girls easily defeated No. 3 Norman North and No. 7 Norman, while sixth-ranked Edmond Memorial beat Norman but lost to Norman North, and No. 10 Santa Fe lost to both Norman schools.
The Lady Huskies won nine of the 11 events, with Abbie Imes and Ally Robertson each winning two individual events. Imes took the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle, while Robertson won the 200 Individual Medley and the 500 Freestyle. Rylee Linhardt won the 200 Freestyle for North, and Jess Graro won the 100 Breaststroke. North won all three relays with Sydney Cain, Graro, Ryanne Vance and Olivia Seefeld winning the 200 Medley Relay, Linhardt, Robertson, Imes and Seefeldt the 200 Free Relay, and Ann-Marie Stowe, Imes, Amanda Greenlee and Robertson the 400 Free Relay. Annah Baykal was the top fininsher for Memorial as she finished second in the 100 Backstroke. For Santa Fe the 400 Free Relay team of Sara Riggs, Brittney Le, Jill Colley and Jessica Landwehr finished fourth.
In the boys meet top-ranked Norman North defeated all three Edmond schools, with No. 4 Edmond North defeating No. 6 Norman. The Tigers defeated fifth-ranked Memorial and No. 9 Santa Fe. Joe Short and Garrett Duncan from Edmond North each won an event with Short taking the 100 Butterfly and Duncan the 100 Breaststroke. Zac Cook was the top finisher for Memorial as he took second in the 500 Freestyle. For Santa Fe the 200 Free Relay team of Brandon Le, Tommy Stewart, Tanner Bailey and Tyler Williams took sixth for their top finish.
“This meet always brings a lot of great races,” said coach Steve Riggs. “The North girls were able to show their dominance and Memorial and Santa Fe kept on moving up and improving. The Norman schools are very deep in boys but I thought that our kids had a lot of good swims that will help us later in the season.”
The Edmond schools finish their first semester meets when they host Enid, Kingfisher, Midwest City, Del City and Carl Albert on Dec. 17 at the OKC Community College Aquatic Center.
