The University of Central Oklahoma hockey team will close out the first half of the 2012-2013 season this weekend with an in-state rival, as the No. 16 Bronchos will meet the No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners in the first of two home-and-home series this weekend.
The Bronchos (11-9) will host at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Arctic Edge Ice Arena, and the Sooners (12-7-1) will host at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Blazers Ice Center in Oklahoma City.
UCO returns home following a road series split against No. 13 Iowa State. The Bronchos took first blood with a 4-3 shootout victory, with freshman Rylan Duley adding two goals to take the team lead with nine on the season, and sophomore Nolan Grauer adding one. UCO could not take the second game, falling in regulation 3-2 despite goals from junior Donald Geary and freshman Edmond native Brandon Gorges.
OU comes in with a series sweep against the No. 6 Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois, snapping a three-game losing streak suffered at the hands of Arizona and Arizona State.
The Sooners are lead by sophomore Darrell Boldon, a transfer from ACHA Division I school Adrian College, who leads in goalscoring with 13 on the season. Freshman Jordan Greenberg leads OU in points with 22 off of eight goals and 14 assists, while projected starting goaltender Colin Fernandes holds a 2.33 GAA with a .91 save percentage.
Though Duley leads the Bronchos in goalscoring, freshman Riley Spraggs leads UCO in points, earning 17 off of eight goals and nine assists. In net, starting sophomore Tory Caldwell boasts a 2.96 GAA with a .91 save percentage.
Admission to the Friday home game is $7, $5 for UCO students and faculty with ID, and free for children 5 and under.
