CORTESE: Christmas wish list
Merry Christmas. This is my favorite time of the year, well maybe with the exception of the start of football, and then I really like Thanksgiving. My birthday is always fun, although as I get older they seem to become more and more nostalgic. But at last, I truly do believe Christmas is my favorite time of the year.
This year I am making my gift list and would enjoy sharing some of it with you.
1. Mick Cornett (Mayor of Oklahoma City and ex-partner) A years worth of Nutri-System meals and an NFL franchise. (Don’t tell Mick it isn’t possible.)
2. Coach Kevin Wilson (OU offensive coordinator) A new plaque for his desk “Head Coach, Kevin Wilson” I bet he uses it sooner than later.
3. Brad Lund (Old friend and former CEO of Express Sports) A new set of PING golf clubs. Enjoy your time away from the hustle and bustle.
4. Sam Bradford and Blake Griffin ( OU current Super star athletes) Hmmmmm... what do you get a couple a guys who are going to be multi-millionaires in the next year or two? I guess a solid gold money clip will be needed.
5. Scott Brooks (Interim head coach for Thunder) A large set of Samsonite luggage. Just in case you need it at the end of the season.
6. Coach Brent Venables (OU defensive coordinator) A bottle of valium. Chill out coach, you have good players.
7. Coach Mike Gundy (OSU head football coach) A box of Hallmark birthday cards telling everyone he is now a 41 year old man. Keep up the good work.
8. Kevin Durant (Thunder basketball star) A set of weight lifting equipment and a case of protein.
9. Doug Sauter (Blazers head coach) A Norelco mustache trimmer. Great job of getting the Blazers back on top.
10. Clay Bennett (and the rest of the Thunder owners) The book “Patience is a Virtue” by I. Hope.
11. Coach Bob Stoops (OU head football coach) Another National Championship along with Sam Bradford returning for one more season.
12. P.J. Carlesimo (Former coach of the Thunder) A franchise for a Mazzio’s Italian Restaurant located in Bricktown.
13. Jim, Rusty, Burl, John, Eddie, Dan, Harold, Wayne, Karl (all my senior golfing buddies at Coffee Creek) A dozen gold balls that beep every time you hit the dang thing in the trees.
14. Eric Spruill (Sports editor for the Edmond Sun) A big thank you card from me. Thanks.
15. Sherri Coale (OU Womens Basketball Coach) A round trip ticket to Platte County Missouri to recruit the 6'2" Morgan Johnson. Someone is going to have to replace Courtney Paris.
16. Sam and Craig Humphries (Sports talk show host and son) A round of golf on the Island of Lanai at the Challenge of Manele golf course. Spectacular. Even better than Pebble Beach.
17. Gene Hochevar (Former OU line coach) A cell phone with my phone number permanently attached.
18. Jeff Capel (OU Basketball Coach) A new trophy case for the 2008-2009 Big 12 Championship Trophy
19. Jim Traber ( Sports talk show host) My prayers and best wishes for a healthier 2009.
20. Chad Kessler (Step-son) A new Titlist Driver with an updated shaft. If you can hit that old beat up club your using now over 300 yards, just imagine what a new modern technology club will do for you.
21. Kelvin Sampson (Former college basketball coach) An updated NCAA rules book.
22. Robert Allen (radio host, OSU reporter, and TV partner at KSBI-TV) A big orange THANK YOU cookie. Thanks for making me look good.
Since the economy stinks I am going to cut back this year and stop here. Merry Christmas to all.

SPRUILL: Woods scandal not so shocking
Charles Barkley warned us about it in 1993. Professional athletes should not be role models.
Sir Charles gave us this gem back then stating, “A million guys can dunk a basketball in jail, should they be role models?”
Just can’t do it. I remember vividly the day I learned this valuable lesson, it was when I got my copy of Sports Illustrated with Sooner quarterback Charles Thompson being ushered to jail in his infamous orange jumpsuit. - HARRISON : It’s time for some hoops With Bedlam in the rearview mirror and talk of freezing temperatures and possible snow this week it can only mean one thing. The winter sports season is upon us.
- SPRUIL: 'Dogs have nothing to lose Bulldogs have a chance to break another streak, which is to attempt to end the east sides dominance — Jenks and Union have combined to win 13 straight Class 6A state titles.

SPRUILL: UCO loaded for another run
No. 18-ranked Central Oklahoma appears to be loaded for another deep run in the NCAA Division II tournament.
It’s only November and the Bronchos have only played one game, but what they showed against Emporia State in a 116-114 double-overtime win was incredible. -
SPRUIL: Playoff picture still cloudy
With most of the district’s already decided — a few key matchups still remain — it’s time to start looking at the playoff picture.
We know Edmond Memorial, Edmond North and Oklahoma Christian are in the playoffs. Deer Creek is on life support, while Oklahoma Christian Academy and Edmond Santa Fe are done for the year following Friday night. -
SPRUILL: OU's Bradford still livin' the dream
There’s still no guarantee that Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford will play this season. But Sooner fan or not, you have to love the Heisman Trophy winner’s attitude.
His first start could come this week against Baylor, or it could be against Texas. You will not hear any crying from Bradford, though, that is for certain.
The media has questioned his decision about coming back. He could have been the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft, instead he gets injured in the opener and now his future is in question.
But what seems so shocking to some across the country, really isn’t that shocking at all. Bradford is living his dream. The dream of any former high school star in the state of Oklahoma that wants to play in either Stillwater or Norman. - HARRISON: Local teams draw favorable regional assignments With the end of the regular season fast approaching, local softball teams are turning their attention towards next week’s regional tournaments. While Edmond Santa Fe is the only squad that will be at home next week, all four teams have a legitimate shot at state.

SPRUILL: Edmond recovering from split
Things are shaping up for another great football season for local teams.
As it stands, Edmond still has two undefeated teams in Edmond North and Oklahoma Christian School. And there are signs the big three have reached a near full recovery from the spit. -
HARRISON : Edmond softball players are catching on quick
Edmond has been known as hot bed for a number of spots including softball. But that reputation on the diamond appeared to have slipped a bit the past couple of seasons. Edmond Santa Fe was the city’s lone representative at the state tournament in 2007, and last fall the area teams were shut out of the ASA Softball Complex.
