AG opposes lighter sentence for Fisher

OKLAHOMA CITY — Attorney General Drew Edmondson's office wants a judge to reject former Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher's request to reduce his sentence for accepting bribes.

Fisher pleaded no contest to accepting bribes in February. Oklahoma County District Judge Kenneth Watson sentenced him to six months in a private lock down facility, where he will be eligible for a work release program.

Watson also ordered Fisher to spend four years and six more months on probation after his release and to pay $5,000 to a state victims' compensation fund.

But the 69-year-old Fisher has asked that the remaining portion of his sentence be suspended.

Edmondson's office responded on Wednesday, telling the judge that Fisher's sentence is already extremely lenient and should not be changed.
