Oklahoma City-County Health Department to Hold First H1N1 Immunization Clinic at OCCC

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department will hold the first H1N1 immunization clinic for Oklahoma County at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) on Thursday, Oct. 15, from

9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or while the supply of vaccine lasts. OCCC is located at 7777 South May Ave. in Oklahoma City.

Following Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, this clinic will be open to pregnant women, as they are at higher risk of complications and can potentially provide protection to infants who cannot be vaccinated, as well as school-age children, four through 18 years of age, because cases of 2009 H1N1 influenza have been seen in children who are in close contact with each other in school and day care settings, which increases the likelihood of disease spread.

Those wishing to receive the vaccine are encouraged to park in lot A (May Avenue entrance), or lot C (SW 74th Street entrance) on the OCCC campus. Check-in will be set up at the information desk on the first floor of the campus’ main building. The clinic will be held in the college’s gymnasium.

There will be no seasonal influenza vaccine given out at this clinic; the next scheduled seasonal influenza clinic will be Monday, Oct. 19 at Metro Technology Center, 1900 Springlake Dr., in Oklahoma City.

Anyone bringing a child to the clinic who is not the parent must have a signed permission slip from the parent authorizing the shot. The slip must read:

I (Full Name Parent) give permission for (Full Name of Person Accompanying Child) to obtain the H1N1 vaccination for: (All children’s full name and date of birth).

This slip must be signed and dated with the appropriate date.

The immunizations are free of charge from the health department; however the health department will accept donations to help cover the cost of administering the vaccine.

For information on the immunization clinics please call 419-4144 or go the OCCHD website at: http://www.cchdoc.com
