3 die in separate highway accidents

DRUMRIGHT — One person has died in a single-vehicle crash in Payne County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Herbert Otis Waldon Jr, 51, of Stroud, was killed in the crash on Oklahoma 99 two miles west of Drumright.

Troopers say the victim's pickup truck was south bound shortly before midnight Friday when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected back on to the roadway and left the left side of the road in a broadslide, striking a tree.

The driver was pinned in the wreckage for about one hour. The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital in Cushing from head and other injuries.

The patrol said the victim was not wearing a seat belt.

Separately, a 59-year-old Texan has died in a head-on collision in Jefferson County in southern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Gary L. Boutwell of Wichita Falls was killed in Saturday's collision at the intersection of U.S. 70 and Oklahoma 79.

Troopers says the crash occurred at 9:14 a.m. Boutwell's vehicle was eastbound on U.S. 70 and a second vehicle was westbound when Boutwell failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.

The patrol says Boutwell's vehicle was struck head-on as the oncoming vehicle was merging onto Oklahoma 79.

The drivers of each of the vehicles were pinned in the wreckage. Boutwell was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash from massive internal injuries.

Troopers say Boutwell was wearing a seat belt.

Authorities say a 3-year-old Proctor girl was killed when a vehicle in which she was riding overturned on U.S. 62 in Adair County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Mercedes Gallardo suffered head and internal injuries and died at the scene of the 8:33 a.m. accident about six miles west of Westville on Saturday.

The patrol says the car driven by 35-year-old Dena Gallardo was headed east on the highway when it failed to negotiate a curve, dropped off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned once, throwing Mercedes and the others out.

Dena Gallardo, 7-year-old Romona Gallardo and 6-year-old Maria Gallardo were admitted to Northwest Arkansas Medical Center in Springdale in stable condition.

The patrol says none of the occupants wore seat belts.
