An investigation by the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office has culminated with the firing and arrest of two county jail employees, Sheriff John Whetsel said.
Whetsel said the agency’s Special Investigations Division conducted the investigation, which resulted in the arrest of former detention Deputy John Jacobson, 29, and former detention Officer Jose Botello, 29.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Mark Myers said they were terminated Wednesday. Whetsel said they were booked on a complaint of assault and battery in relation to an incident that occurred at the Oklahoma County jail on Dec. 1.
“When the allegations surrounding this incident were brought to my attention an internal investigation was conducted immediately,” Whetsel said.
At the conclusion of the probe, he terminated both employees and directed that this case be presented to Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater, Whetsel said.
“As public servants charged with protecting those in our custody we are held to a higher standard and I will not for one second tolerate anyone who violates that trust,” Whetsel said.
Paperwork related to assault and battery has been presented and filed at the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, Whetsel said.
Myers said further details about the incident were not immediately available.
Both men had posted $500 bond and were no longer incarcerated as of Thursday afternoon, according to jail records.
